The Roxette Demos! Vol. 3
Per on Volume 3
The Tits&Ass Studio outside of Halmstad was certainly glowing in the 80’s and the 90’s. I’ve spent so many days and nights in there with the mighty MP Persson. Good vibes, great coffee, terrific cats. It all reflects in the music.
- Per Gessle
It was a pretty busy period but I was on a roll and got loads of positive energy from all the success. I wrote a lot while travelling and as soon as I returned home I recorded my ideas with MP at the Tits&Ass Studio.
It was a procedure that went on for many, many years…actually it still goes on.
Per on the extreme hectic period between ‘Look Sharp’ and ‘Joyride’. (Proved here with ‘Things Will Never Be The Same’ – demo made already in June 1989)
The basic idea was to write about ”a day going by” – you start in the morning and finish at night.
I really love this song, the melody lines, the chorus, the lyrics. For me it played the same important role as ”Listen To Your Heart” did on the ”Joyride”-album.

Everyone loved it. The only negative thing was that I was singing it. That wasn’t the idea behind Roxette at all. In my world – if there ever was gonna be a big Roxette song, it had to be sung by Marie.

What makes a hit..?
At an early stage I felt this could be a single. It had something very special, something really fresh. I could definitely hear Marie sing it and make it into a monster track. But I don’t know, something happened along the way. It never really kicked in and I don’t know why. I love the demo, it’s a beautiful song to sing.

Solo or Roxette?
’June Afternoon’ wasn’t written for Roxette at all. I made a lot of guitar driven power pop songs at this stage, most of them wound up on the ‘The World According To Gessle’-album.
However, both Clarence and Marie liked “June Afternoon” a lot so we decided to keep it for Roxette.
